Foreign media reported that energy ministers from the Group of Seven (G7) member countries and EU representatives recently attended a two-day meeting in Japan and finally reached a project agreement. As part of the plan to accelerate the clean energy transition, they set a goal of installing more than 1TW of photovoltaic systems by 2030.<\/p>\n

As part of the urgent need to accelerate the clean energy transition and transform the global energy system, G7 member states have also pledged to install 150GW of offshore wind power facilities by the end of 2030 to achieve the goal of net zero emissions in the energy system by 2050 at the latest.<\/p>\n

G7 officials detailed their commitments in a 36-page communique released after two days of talks in the northern Japanese city of Sapporo.<\/p>\n

Officials from G7 member countries said, "We will significantly increase the amount of electricity generated by renewable energy. The G7 is committed to expanding the scale of global renewable energy deployment and reducing the cost of power generation by expanding the scale. On the basis of the existing targets of each member country, 150GW of offshore wind power facilities will be added by 2030, and more than 1TW of photovoltaic systems will be added by 2030."<\/p>\n

They also pledged to promote the improvement of innovative technologies, including the use of perovskitePhotovoltaic cells<\/a>and wave energy, and international standards for assessment methods for the introduction of new technologies.<\/p>\n

The G7 includes Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States. These countries account for a quarter of global carbon emissions and 40% of the world's total economy.<\/p>\n

In the communiqu\u00e9 they released, they stressed that \u201caccelerating the clean energy transition is key to improving the security, stability and affordability of global energy supply, and there is a real need to improve energy security and accelerate the clean energy transition through the diversification of supply, sources and routes.<\/p>\n

We reaffirm the importance of significantly increasing the speed and scale of renewable energy deployment in decarbonizing our economy as an effective means of strengthening our energy security by diversifying our energy supply and reducing our reliance on fossil fuels, and achieving our net zero emissions target by 2050.\u201d<\/p>\n

The renewable energy deployment targets they outlined in the communique were backed by an agreement to accelerate the phase-out of fossil fuel facilities, particularly coal-fired power generation.<\/p>\n

The G7 agreed to prioritize concrete and timely measures to accelerate the phase-out of coal-fired power generation as part of a commitment to achieve major decarbonization of the power sector by 2035.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe will work with other countries to phase out coal-fired power generation facilities around the world as quickly as possible and accelerate the transition to clean energy in a fair manner,\u201d the communique said.<\/p>\n

In an interview with the media, John Kerry, the US President's Special Envoy for Climate Change, said that the meeting was very constructive.<\/p>\n
